Specialist in Issues of Midlife & Older Adults

About Psychotherapist and Gerontologist Nancy Rhine

Nancy Rhine, MS, LMFT, CPG

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with specialization in Gerontology (the study of aging). For the past 20 years, I have served midlife and older individuals and their families to be able to understand, manage and find peace amid the myriad complex challenges and opportunities inherent in later seasons of life.

I am trained and experienced in providing counseling for midlife and older individuals who want to explore their inner Selves and find healing through psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.  For those individuals, I provide education, preparatory sessions, and supportive integration sessions around their experiences. I do not provide psychedelic substances.

I provide knowledgeable, compassionate, and safe sessions where you can explore and heal what you may be encountering at this stage in your life. For example, maybe you are grappling with the effects of ageism, trying to find new purpose in your life, want to explore your creativity, are contemplating your legacy, feeling overwhelmed with a sense of impermanence, managing cumulative loss and grief, experiencing shifting dynamics in relationships, and grappling with the big existential questions.  Clients tell me that having a genuinely kind and competent specialist is tremendously valuable as they navigate these middle and older years of life

My clients also tell me that they benefit from my professional history. I have been blessed to have had a wide range of deep life experiences and adventures that enable me to understand broad existential perspectives as well as to be able to offer practical and essential management strategies. My life path has taken me through service as a lifelong activist, successful Internet executive and founder, author, care manager, Emergency Medical Technician, medic, birth doula, end-of-life doula, artist, musician wife, mother, and grandmother.

As an Internet early adopter, I helped manage Whole Earth Catalog’s pioneering online community (The WELL) during its period of rapid growth. I then founded Women.com, the first commercial, women-focused website (which was later bought by Hearst New Media). I was recruited by America Online to be its first Director of Women’s Programming serving an audience of 7 million female subscribers. I continued with other positions in the digital world, including co-authoring a book with Cliff Figallo for Wiley & Sons called “Building the Knowledge Management Network”. I founded a dozen health condition-related web-based support communities through PlanetRx.com. Some of my tech stories are featured in the book Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the Internet.

For the past 20 years, I have had a private counseling practice. I serve clients throughout California via telehealth, and throughout the world as a gerontology consultant. I now also provide counseling, support and education for individuals and couples who are seeking psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Following is a little more about my education and licensing. For a more complete description of my professional background and experience, click here to view my resume.
